Free Website Strategy: Tutoring Company

Over on TikTok, someone asked me to do a website outline for a tutoring company, and it made me want to start a full blog post series with different businesses. So this week will be the Website Strategy for the tutoring company, and next week I’ll share a marketing strategy for your monthly content and getting set up that way. If you’re new here, I have a few of these already done: IT professionals, florists, gyms, and gift shops!

Five Webpages Your Tutoring Site Needs

I’ll start with the first five pages, so your tutoring website can get up and running quickly. I always start my process with five pages and go from there. Sometimes it’s very obvious we will need more than 5 pages, but usually we can add those one per month to keep things affordable.

Start with the Homepage

I have a download with a homepage checklist, so you can make sure you don’t miss anything on this page. But let me walk through what a tutoring company will need specifically:

Homepage Hero/ Header Image: List your primary tutoring services, ages, or the results you achieve. Your headline should tell people exactly what you do and how it will improve their outcomes. In about five words… and you need your service area. It can feel like a lot, but you can get it (or I can help!).

The Problem: No one ever wants to talk about the problem because they want to stay positive. But no one buys unless there’s a problem they’re trying to solve. You want them to know you understand the problem and you’ve helped people just like them before. Once you start paying attention to marketing, you’ll see that this is everywhere.

Credibility: The next section on your site should be statistics and tutorials about how great you are 😊

Value Propositions: What makes you better than the competition. PLEASE DON’T USE THE ACTUAL WORDS “VALUE PROPOSITION” I’ve seen this a lot on local business websites, and it’s truly the worst. Don’t waste space with jargon when you could be talking exactly to your customer.

Service Area/ Location: You will need to mention the service area a few times throughout the website to make a difference for Search Engines and AI summaries. Don’t skip this.

More Words: You’ll want an absolute minimum of 300 words on every page. Really should be over 500. So usually I add in an FAQ section or a “Brand Story” from Donald Miller’s Building a Storybrand.

Page 2: Tutoring Services

Next up: your services.

Do you specialize in Math or Reading? Or a specific age group? Here’s where you talk all about that, and include pricing if possible.

Room for growth: One monthly option would be to add individual service pages. These are excellent for SEO, since someone may be searching just for SAT help or elementary math, and you get to dedicate an entire page to how great you are at those things… which will put you at the top of search results.

Page 3: Location & Service Area

Again, this is super important for Search Engine and map results. You want to make sure you’re showing up at the top of the list or in the correct AI summary when someone searches “Tutoring + [your town]”

Room for growth: Another option for monthly content would be adding specific location pages for each of the surrounding towns that you serve. The more specific you can get, the better, and the more content you put on your website, the more Google takes you seriously (and AI engines can pull from).

Page 4: About / Team Page

As buyers become more skeptical and wary of where their dollars go (and let’s be honest, they can find free classes on YouTube, so why are they paying for a tutor?), your About page becomes more important. You should primarily focus on your credentials that apply to this topic. But you should give a good taste of your personality, so the customer can feel comfortable if they choose you.

This is also where you put the team headshots and bios. You could make it a separate page if you want, but I do try to keep some things minimal.

Room for growth: For your monthly content strategy, consider introducing different tutoring instructors or having someone do a social media takeover for the day. Could be fun to talk about the concept someone mastered throughout the sessions, or the biggest hurdles you see over and over.

Page 5: Tutoring FAQs

You might have mini FAQ sections on each page, but a full page of questions can be helpful for both the Google traditional search engine and AI summaries. Use questions that people actually ask (because they’re probably asking ChatGPT the same question), and then fill in the info you wish everyone knew before they called you.

Room for growth: Make a blog post out of every question! This makes you the authority that AI references every time someone asks a question.

Anything Else?

This is a fairly streamlined look at a website, and you can/should expand your website regularly. Google likes websites that are regularly updated because that means you’re alive 😊

Working with a marketing strategist (like meeeee) can help you decide which pages to prioritize as you grow your website and online presence. Let’s chat!
